Weight loss is a topic that concerns almost every one today. Losing weight does not have to be expensive, time consuming or difficult if you follow a few good tips.
- Start your day with food. It can be hard to find the time or the motivation to eat in the morning, but it is important. Eating in the morning is literally ‘breaking a fast’. Most people do not eat anything after dinner, and that means your body has gone without fuel for up to twelve hours. It is important to start out with food because it helps to wake you up and get you going. Many people who don’t eat in the morning have memory or concentration problems. Eating breakfast will solve much of that and prime your system for weight loss. Choose food that is high in protein and low in fat to get a good start.
- Recent studies have shown that people who break their mealtimes into five separate small meals spaced throughout the day lose more weight than those who skip meals or eat one huge meal all at once. Spacing food consumption out throughout the day keeps your blood sugar levels stable and make you feel satisfied all day. You are less likely to binge or crave sugar or fat when your blood sugar level remains constant.
- A small amount of sugar is actually good for you. Contrary to what many diet experts have said in the past, new studies are showing that a small amount of sugar, gained by eating either fruit or a one ounce square of chocolate, will help to reduce cravings and charge your system up in the mid afternoon.
- Don’t deprive yourself of your favorite foods. Eat less of them or eat them less frequently. If you are looking to lose 10 or 15 pounds, reducing the amount of fat, sugar, and ‘bad’ carbs will help you lose it. Complete deprivation of something you enjoy eating will only make the temptation to binge on it stronger. It is better to have a little rather than eat none and feel badly about it.
- Exercise, exercise, exercise. A moving body uses more calories than a stationary body. This one common sense thing is something that many people have the most trouble doing. You don’t need fancy equipment or clothes to take a walk, dance in front of your TV or a whole host of other activities. Even a small increase in exercise will show benefits in increased oxygen to your brain and vital organs, as well as raising your metabolism and lowering your stress levels.
- Find a friend. Make a date to go walking with a buddy. Go to the fitness center together. Swim together. Usually when a person has someone else depending on them for companionship during the same activity, both people are more motivated to do the activity because they don’t want to let the other person down.
- Don’t give up. Eat an entire container of ice cream or a bag of chips because you just wanted them so badly? It’s all right. Just jump right up and start fresh. As humans we occasionally lapse, but the more effort you put into doing the right thing for yourself, the easier it becomes. An occasional step back won’t completely knock you out.
